Front vs Supportman

An independent check for teams running Front, Copilot, and Autopilot.

This page compares Front’s AI layer — Copilot, Smart CSAT and Autopilot — not the shared inbox itself.

Front is a shared inbox with an AI layer on top: AI Topics group conversations by theme, Copilot drafts and assists replies, a separate Smart QA add-on scores them, Smart CSAT infers a satisfaction score when the customer never rated the conversation, and Autopilot resolves simple requests, billed per conversation. It is a capable, well-built stack for teams living in a shared inbox across email, chat and SMS.

Supportman does not run on Front today; it is Intercom-native. For Intercom teams, it delivers real-time CSAT/DSAT in Slack, AI quality scoring on every closed conversation, and — in build now — Problem Episodes: a persistent, quoted record of whether one customer’s one problem actually went away, not just whether the thread got a good inferred score.

Why an independent check matters

An inferred score is not the same thing as the customer telling you it is fixed.

With Front

  • Smart CSAT is frequently an AI-inferred score rather than a real customer rating — a useful proxy, but not a verbatim quote
  • Copilot and Smart QA are separate $20/seat add-ons on top of the $25–$105/seat Front plan (both included only in Enterprise)
  • Autopilot is billed per conversation, starting at $0.05 each, yet another metered line item
  • AI Topics groups conversations by theme across the inbox, not by one customer’s specific, still-open problem
  • No persistent record ties two threads from the same customer about the same issue together over time

With Supportman

  • Real-time CSAT & DSAT alerts in Slack, from ratings customers actually leave
  • AI quality scoring (IQS) on every closed conversation, graded against your rubric
  • Building Problem Episodes: linking a customer’s conversations about one issue into a record, with a quote behind every resolved/unresolved claim
  • Published per-user pricing, no per-seat AI add-on stack
  • Self-serve, live in under two minutes, no credit card
Price comparison

Front vs Supportman pricing, side by side.

Front is priced per seat ($25/$65/$105, billed annually), with Copilot ($20/seat), Smart QA ($20/seat) and inferred Smart CSAT ($10/seat) as separate add-ons (all three included in Enterprise), plus Autopilot from $0.05/conversation. Supportman does not run on Front today — it connects to Intercom and Slack, with one published per-user rate and no add-on stack.

Straight talk

When Front is the better pick.

If your team lives across email, chat and SMS in one shared inbox, Front’s multichannel model is a real advantage, and its AI layer (Topics, Copilot, Smart QA, Smart CSAT, Autopilot) is genuinely useful for triage and coaching. The gap is specific: an inferred CSAT score is a prediction, not the customer’s own word, and AI Topics groups conversations by theme rather than tracking whether one customer’s one problem actually went away. Supportman does not run on Front yet — Intercom is the only integration today, and Front support is a roadmap item without a committed date.

FAQ

Front vs Supportman, answered.

Q.01

Does Supportman work with Front?

Not yet. Supportman is Intercom-native today. Front support is on the roadmap, without a committed date. This page compares Front’s AI layer to what Supportman does for Intercom teams.

Q.02

What is Front’s Smart CSAT?

An AI-generated satisfaction estimate Front shows when a customer did not leave a real rating. It is a reasonable proxy, but it is inferred, not a verbatim customer response.

Q.03

What is a Problem Episode?

Supportman is building a persistent record that links a customer’s conversations about the same underlying problem, up to 90 days, and classifies the outcome with a verbatim quote behind every claim. It is in build now, for Intercom first.

Q.04

Is this page suggesting I replace Front?

No. Front is a full shared-inbox platform; Supportman is a quality and resolution layer. If Front is your inbox, this page is about the gap between an inferred score and a confirmed fix, not about switching platforms.

Q.05

How much does Front’s AI layer cost?

Front’s pricing page lists seats at $25–$105/mo (billed annually), with Copilot ($20/seat), Smart QA ($20/seat) and Smart CSAT ($10/seat) as separate add-ons, all three included in Enterprise, and Autopilot starting at $0.05 per conversation. Supportman is public: $5 per user per month for notifications and reports, $15 with AI evaluations.

Q.06

Why does an inferred CSAT score matter?

A predicted rating is still a guess, and a platform that reports its own AI’s performance has an incentive to guess generously. Real ratings, plus an independent check on whether the underlying problem actually resolved, catch what an inferred score can miss.
